Sheriff Lamphere took it upon himself to examine the marijuana establishments in Butte County despite not being the designated person to do the inspection nor following a specific checklist to ensure the inspection was done correctly and thoroughly. According to state law, a representative from the Department of Health is supposed to inspect the marijuana establishments once a year. In the Butte County Ordinance, no specific person is the designated inspector and details as to what exactly needs inspected and how often aren’t listed. Sheriff Lamphere noted in his report in the video that he’d like to develop a vision for inspections in Butte County and have a designated inspector that works with the DOH to do it correctly and thoroughly and more often. We’re not sure why these kinds of details weren’t set and agreed upon before the ordinance was adopted so all the necessary preparations were ready when the ordinance took affect. We also still don’t have any more details of what they’ve decided to do about this at this time of publication. Click here to read the state law and click here to read the Butte County Ordinance.
